A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
