The ex-lawyer for the former president has resigned as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that questioned her right to hold the office.
Attorney General's Statement
The nation's top law enforcement official, the Attorney General, accepted Habba's resignation on the start of the week. Bondi stated that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for her to effectively run her office.
"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "The effort will now reach across the nation."

Her resignation comes a week after a federal appellate panel determined that she had been unlawfully serving as the top prosecutor. This ruling is likely to affect many prosecutions in New Jersey.
The court said that a temporary posting that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the federal law governing appointments.

It was also stated that Habba will continue working within the DOJ as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the court's action, in the hope of achieving a different outcome.
Writing online, she wrote that the court "should not be able to second-guess the President's choice of prosecutors entrusted with executing the fundamental role of the presidency of prosecuting crime."

Bondi commended her tenure and said that under her leadership, the state capital of Newark saw a 20% reduction in criminal activity. It was also reported that the southern city of Camden had its first summer in half a century without a homicide.
Background and Previous Role
The 41-year-old attorney, originally became part of Donald Trump's lawyers in 2021. Subsequently, she represented Trump in his hush-money trial in 2024, leading to his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of financial record manipulation.
Earlier, Habba took on the top New Jersey post, the former president had stated he was selecting her as his presidential counsellor if re-elected, labeling her as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a dedicated fighter for justice.
