Brian Eno Encourages Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the earlier concert, which managed to collect a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The track showcases a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the initiative have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a figure commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
