Crew Member Reveals Mental Health Struggle In the Wake of ‘Tsunami of Online Abuse After Historic Trip
A Vietnamese-American astronaut has opened up regarding her struggle with mental health after enduring a relentless barrage of criticism in the wake of a landmark journey to the edge of space.
The 34-year-old activist – recognized as a researcher and activist – was part of the brief journey to space in April, which also included celebrity crewmates.
The much-publicized journey was heavily criticized by some, who cited its expense and ecological impact.

Now, eight months after reaching space, she reports that the deepest pain is gradually receding, and she expressed gratitude the supporters whose kindness helped save her. “You all saved me,” she wrote.
She concluded that despite the negativity, important benefits had resulted from the flight, such as increased focus on her women's health research and chances to influence leaders.
