Fans Urge Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the Australian man bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes videos of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested online networks to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, winning several for best costume and set decoration.
