Israelis have gathered around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel answered by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled state commemorations until 16 October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israelis killed in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was televised across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' representatives gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the plan.

A prominent representative familiar with the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of mediated discussions started at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the earlier meeting finished without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not restart fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the discussions are "tough and have still not achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the both parties.

Key Issues in Talks

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the captives still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid provision
  • Post-war administration of the region

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother endured the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas militants - told: "No place appears as home now and until each abducted person return none of us will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can relax once more. Then we can start to heal," she added.

Near the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel states 48 stay in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of the population want the hostilities to finish in as payment for the release of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of the music event, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses said the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of that day in the western neighborhood, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"As the night falls, the fear appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli air strike earlier, shared.

"We are terrified of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, embracing, especially my smallest child who puts his face on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had taken in the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of that area indicated two more dead people had been brought there. One of them was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for assistance to the south, health workers reported.

Gaza's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
