Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a significant honors show draws close, one notices a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
