The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
